North Vermilion's Never Quit Attitude leads to state title

The North Vermilion Lady Patriots won the Class 3A softball state title by having the attitude, “It is never over, until it is over.”
The Lady Patriots beat Brusly 5-3 in 10 innings on Saturday in a late-night contest.
When the game was on the line, the Lady Patriots could have packed it in and settled for second place in Class 3A.
Not these girls. They wanted it just a little more than Brusly that night.
North Vermilion head coach Joy LeBlanc instilled in her players to give it their all until the final out is made.

Big sixth inning powers Lady Eagles to semifinals

The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles fans and coaches were waiting for their team to show up in the quarterfinal round of the Division IV playoff.
They finally showed up in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Down 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, VC scored eight runs and came from behind to win 10-5 against No. 9 seed Ascension Catholic Lady Bulldogs.
VC will have a rematch against district foe Central Catholic Saturday at 11:30 a.m. VC won both games in district play.

Gueydan left off LHSAA all-tourney team

GUEYDAN — The LHSAA released the 2017 Girls Marsh Madness All-Tourament Team and no one from the Class A Gueydan Honeybears landed on the team.
The LHSAA selected 10 girls from Class 5A to Division V.
Merryville’s Andrea Cournoyer, who played only one game in the tournament but scored 36 points, landed on the team.

Galluser's bat on fire this weekend for North Vermilion

LEROY - What better player to have at the plate with the game on the line, than the one who is swinging the hottest bat of the young season.
That was the case Sunday evening for Charlie Galluser, the No. 3 batter for North Vermilion.
The score was tied 9-9 in the bottom of the seventh inning against Loreauville.
Galluser, who already had two hits in the game, hit a 2-1 curve ball between first base and second base with two men on. His third hit scored Luke LeBlanc to give the Patriots the victory.
With the win, the Patriots improved to 4-0 .

VC opens with victory over Delcambre

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles scored six runs in the first inning and cruised to a 14-4 victory over Delcambre on Thursday.
Dillon Dupree got the victory on the hill for VC. He pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed three hits and struck out three.
Hunter Bertrand closed for VC.
For DHS, Payton Deranger took the loss on the hill.
VC racked up 13 hits.
