LAFAYETTE PARISH – On Thursday, July 28, at approximately 11:20 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. Hwy. 167 near Teljean Road in Lafayette Parish. The crash claimed the life of 57-year-old Brent Abshire of Kaplan.

Driving the roads in Louisiana leaves a little bit to be desired. The issue facing the state in making improvements in that regard is a $12.7 billion hole for road and bridge repairs and maintenance. An avenue for those who desire better roads, as well as bridges, in the state is an increase in the state’s gasoline tax.

ST. MARTIN – Investigators from the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations - Special Victims Unit arrested a Catholic Priest in St. Martin Parish. The arrest was the result of an investigation into his possible possession of pornography involving juveniles.

ERATH — The Perry twins from Kaplan were honored Saturday night by the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree.

Buses will roll soon

These four buses have been parked for the last week at the Council on Aging Office. They were once used to transport the elderly around Vermilion Parish. Next week, they could be back in action transporting the elderly.

Good news for the elderly in Vermilion Parish. By next week there should be transportation to help the elderly.
