James Harber remains in the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center with a bond set at more than $4.6 million. Harber is accused of rape involving juveniles. Abbeville Police arrested him on April 26. Harber, 31, faced a bond hearing Tuesday afternoon. District Judge Laurie Hulin set the total bond at $4,675,000.

An Abbeville woman arrested last year in connection to the operation of a meth lab in the city has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Judge Laurie Hulin handed down a 12-year sentence of hard labor to Sondra Evans, 50, last Thursday.

No tobacco will be allowed on grounds of Abbeville General

Abbeville General has adopted a 100 percent tobacco-free campus policy that will become effective May 1.
As of this date, patients, staff, and visitors will no longer be allowed to use tobacco products of any type, including smokeless and electronic tobacco products, on any part of the hospital campus.

Vermilion Parish School Board employees now have new health insurance options to select from.
At Thursday’s meeting, the school board adopted three different health insurance plans with Blue Cross Blue Shield.

On Friday, April 15, the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette hosted the Celebration of the Eucharist and Rite of Installation of His Excellency, the Most Reverend John Douglas Deshotel, DD, as the seventh Bishop of Lafayette. He succeeds the Most Reverend Michael Jarrell, DD, who was among those who participated in Friday’s proceedings.
